During the era of the new Church, he preached in Jerusalem and at Ephesus. He was, with the other apostles, taken prisoner and scourged by the Jews, and in the year 95, under the Emperor Domitian, was thrown into a vessel of boiling oil. Having endured this torture without burns or injury, he was then banished to the island of Patmos for a year.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eHe died at Ephesus in 101 and is credited with the authorship of three epistles, one Gospel, and the Book of Revelation.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eSaint John is recognized today as the patron of those suffering from burns.
