The bulk of these talks, however, date from two periods and locations. Saint Maximilian gave the first group of conferences in 1933 during the early days of the "Garden of the Immaculate" (Mugenzai no Sono) in Nagasaki, Japan. The second group dates from 1936-37. Saint Maximilian delivered these talks at Niepokalanow as the ominous signs of global conflict grew in intensity.

The conferences are addressed to the friars of these two friaries. In Niepokalanow, the conferences could last up to an hour, although the typical duration was thirty minutes. When he was home, Saint Maximilian often delivered two conferences a day. However, his health would sometimes prevent him from meeting this rigorous schedule. The conferences were quite informal and involved a great deal of question and answer dialogue. Typically, 50-60 friars would attend the conferences. At times, they occurred in the chapel. At other times, Saint Maximilian spoke in a simple room, adorned only with a picture of his beloved Immaculata. Often, he spoke while seated on the floor with the friars around him.

Texts of these talks do not exist. The conferences which follow are transcriptions made by the friars in attendance. The texts bear the signatures of several different friars who acted as recorders. Often, the note-taking friars hid behind another friar so as to avoid notice because, in his humility, Saint Maximilian did not believe his words to be worthy of saving. We are concerned with the individual as a person, who is by nature a component of society.
The basic principle of these religion books is the Catholic premise: Salvation is primarily and ultimately an individual work, under the guidance and help of the Catholic Church. This is the message of our Savior, that the Last Judgement will depend on personal merit or demerit.
Definite official teachings of our faith must be presented for the inspiration and safe travel of our children to eternal salvation. He has the ability, rarely seen, to take the reader with him and permit one to experience life as it was experienced by those who lived and were formed by the Saint. He does this through a vivid depiction of his own senses and feelings which formed him as a friar minor and permitted him to persevere in his religious consecration for 64 years of his life. These act as a tunnel through which one can be transported back in time to experience what he experienced not only of the Saint but also of the historic events that took place at the time and its effects on the friars living at Niepokalanow. As such it provides further insight and contribution to what has already been written about St. Maximilian Kolbe.
Father McGuire's Christo-centric Catechism
Know, Love & Serve
Book 1
for Preschool and First Grade

Contents
The Greatest Priority, General Introduction, Special Introduction for Parents and Teachers, Outline of Subject Matter, and Prayers

Lesson 1 Creation
Lesson 2 All Things Speak to God
Lesson 3 The Blessed Trinity
Lesson 4 The Angels
Lesson 5 (Part I and II) Man
Lesson 6 God Keeps His Promise
Lesson 7 (Part I, II, and III) The Life of Jesus
Lesson 8 The Holy Spirit
Lesson 9 (Part I and II) The Sacrament of Baptism
Lesson 10 Sin

Appendix 1 These Are God's Rules
Appendix 2 Main Part of Mass
Index and Glossary
Footnotes

This series of catechisms incorporates the worthwhile advances in psychology and pedagogy, as urged by the Vatican Council II.
